2014 Steamboat Chamber Adventure

Signature Costa Rica

DAY 1: Welcome to Costa Rica!

Our private charter awaits us at San Jose International Airport. In less than an hour, you will be whisked to the lush rainforest of Arenal and our new home, Leaves and Lizards Arenal Volcano Cabin Retreat. Located in the mountains above La Fortuna, Leaves & Lizards is a unique eco resort offering tranquility, adventure and discovery. Comfortable cabins with panoramic views of Arenal Volcano and the surrounding mountains await us.

Our journey begins with a unique visit to a local dairy farm where you will be immersed in a traditional, working farm. Savor a traditional Costa Rican breakfast before learning about life on a Costa Rican farm. Learn how to milk cows, make cheese and help with chores. A professional, naturalist guide will translate for non-Spanish speaking guests. Leaves & Lizards, our home for the next three nights is a short drive away. Keep your eyes peeled for toucans. Soak in your first view of the majestic Arenal Volcano while relaxing over lunch at Leaves & Lizards. If you are lucky, you might even see a sloth hidden in a tree or hear a howler monkey. Spend the afternoon soaking in the tranquil atmosphere of our new home. Listen to the sounds of the rainforest while swinging in a hammock, take a nap or explore the forest on foot. Dinner tonight is at the Lava Restaurant at Leaves & Lizards. Leaves and Lizards | Meals: L, D

DAY 2: Time to Explore the Rainforest

Build an appetite with a guided early morning hike on property with our Leaves and Lizards’ local expert, Oscar. Learn about the rainforest and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, fueling up for the big day ahead. The day is yours to spend how you wish. We recommend exploring the rainforest by horseback, or perhaps volunteering at a local wildlife rescue center. Additional options include local cooking classes and an exciting riverboat tour. Your Trip Leader will work with you to book the option of your choice. Dinner tonight is at the Lava Restaurant at Leaves & Lizards. Leaves and Lizards | Meals: B, L, D

DAY 3: Arenal, the Hot Springs and Zip Lines

Venture out with a private, local guide to discover the beauty of Arenal National Park. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of monkeys, toucans and sloths. Trek across a lava field in Arenal National Park and stare in amazement at a live volcano. The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish – relaxing at the local hot springs or enjoying the thrill of zip lining through the trees! Dinner tonight is again at the Lava Restaurant at Leaves & Lizards. Curious to know what animals appear at night? After dinner, join Oscar for an optional evening hike on property. Who knows what you will see! Leave and Lizards | Meals: B, L, D

DAY 4: The Pacific

A private charter will whisk us from the rainforest to the Pacific. The Hotel Tropico Latino is an oasis of tranquility, located on the ocean in Santa Teresa. Listen to the sound of the waves crashing onto shore from your bedroom, take a dip in the beachside pool and hot tub, enjoy yoga on an oceanfront deck and keep your surfboard handy for a few impromptu waves.

Santa Teresa welcomes us with a scrumptious lunch overlooking the ocean. Choose how you want to spend the afternoon. Simply relax at the pool or on the beach, indulge in a massage or opt for something more active - zip lining, horseback riding, surfing or sunset yoga. Dinner tonight is on your own and your Trip Leader will be there to help with your selection. Explore the many culinary options that Santa Teresa has to offer; from traditional beans and rice to gourmet lobster tacos. Hotel Tropico Latino | Meals: B, L

DAY 5: Surfing at Playa Hermosa

Start the day with a breakfast to remember – hand-picked fruit smoothies, local coffee, fresh pastries and the delicious special of the day. Our local surf instructors will transport us up the peninsula to the beautiful white sands of Playa Hermosa. Learn how to surf in the clear warm water, brush up on your surfing skills or just enjoy the beach. When you’ve had enough, relax in a hammock or explore the coastline on foot before settling down to a barbecue lunch. Back at Hotel Tropico, opt for a massage, enjoy some sunset yoga or simply relax at the pool. Dinner tonight is at Brisas Del Mar; a delicious local restaurant located just above our hotel. Savor freshly caught fish, local beef and fun cocktails. Hotel Tropico Latino | Meals: B, L, D

DAY 6: Stand Up Paddleboard

Fuel up for the morning with another hearty breakfast before our final adventure – Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP.) Learn the basics on land and then hit the water. Our adventure will take us by the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco. If you are lucky, you might even see a a few migrating sea turtles!
